What is special about this rice?
Chorao Island red kernel rice comprises a variety of traditional and hybrid red kernel rice that is grown on the island such as Jyoti, Korgut and Revathy.
What makes this a special food is the fact that Red kernel rice possesses certain nutritional advantages when compared with regular white rice. Red kernel rice has high fibre content, essential oils, digestible protein as well as high levels of vitamin B complex.
High-fibre and high-nutrition
In order to ensure that this is retained in the final product delivered, the farmers have tried to ensure that the while milling, enough of the rice bran is left on the rice to provide additional fibre to enrich our diet.
